And I have to say, it looked much better in person than I thought it would. It was much more subdued than I anticipated, which was a better look than the busy concept. I think the red helped, not being the XTREME blue or yellow. One thing that pained me was that it looked like it was screaming to be a wagon. As you know, we yanks don’t get the Auris wagon, just this rebadged 5-door.
But as I said before, the problem is that you can get a nice Vibe or Matrix with the 1ZZ that has the same horsepower and functionality for 7k-12k in good condition, though the iM would have better fuel economy. Also, for those who care, you can’t get a sunroof on the iM.
It’s great that you can get a new basic hatchback starting at $19.5k, but you can also get a Elantra, Forte5, Focus, and Fiesta around that range. And you can bump the budget up a smidgen and now you’re in Impreza-Mazda3 territory, and upper trim levels of the previous cars mentioned. Bump up even more and you’re entering crossover land.
If these iMs don’t sell well, I’m hoping I can get a screaming deal on one in a year or two. If I haven’t found an immaculate Tercel by then.

Yes, I agree. There are quite a lot of white ones tooting around where I live and they were surprisingly charming. I had to recheck it was the iM since I was so confused by the amount of like I had for it.

The euro version, the Toyota Auris, is quite an ok car.
i had the hybrid version for a year and a half as a company car, and i think its a great family car.
Solid build quality, well equipped , economical and like all toyota’s bullet proof.
just dont expect any driving pleasure, the steering is the bad kind of electric steering, completely dead.
it doesn’t like cornering, has too much body roll.
and its kinda sluggish off the line.

Kudos to the first person that changes to the pre-facelift Auris front end:

Why a ZZ over the NZ, if you don't mind me asking?

That all sounds good to me, other than the steering.

I like the iM in general, but the body kit looks worse every time I see it.

The Auris is quite an improvement over the Matrix, as it has IRS in the back but is heaved by the CVT in most models and HP ratings that barely come close to the body kit it adorns.
Zoidberg, you can put a sunroof on anything. The matrix has an aftermarket sunroof that occasionally jams up. I found that out when the controls didn’t look Toyota, and the model name on the sunroof that I searched up came up with a recall notice.

Well it would be par for the course in our case.
